A CELEBRATION OF ARNOVA’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY:
Reflections on Where We Are and How Far We Have Come!
This year we held our first ever hybrid conference to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of ARNOVA. The in-person component took place in Atlanta, Georgia with 437 attendees and we connected with 250 virtual attendees from all over the world through our conference platform. It was the first ARNOVA conference for 226 of our 687 registrants! The conference covered a wide scope of topics within philanthropy, through over 102 paper presentations, 13 Professional Development Workshops, 28 poster presentations, 26 panels, and 33 colloquia.
The multifaceted and interdisciplinary nature of philanthropy, nonprofit, and the voluntary sector was illustrated in the high-quality research presented through all our sessions and presentations. However, at the heart of this year’s conference was its theme - A Celebration of ARNOVA’s 50th Anniversary: Reflections on Where We Are and How Far We Have Come! - which allowed us to reflect on the breadth and impact of our association in the third sector. These ideas were explored deeper in our opening session, where our featured speakers were our own members, who shared their experiences in the association and how those experiences have impacted their personal and professional lives.
This event was followed by our Opening Luncheon, where we awarded the 2021 Distinguished Achievement and Leadership in Nonprofit and Voluntary Action Research Award to Judith Saidel, as well as to Jack Quarter, posthumously.
Following a day and a half of stimulating presentations and panels, attendees gathered for the 2021 Annual Awards Luncheon to recognize the accomplishments of the brilliant scholars and practitioners that we may call our colleagues and friends.
At the ARNOVA awards luncheon, we also honored our retiring board members, Angela Eikenberry, Thad Calabrese, Curtis Child and Mary Kay Gugerty, for their service.
This luncheon, as well as the many receptions and sessions throughout the conference, were made possible by a number of generous sponsors.
